The story begins with Bomex, a legendary aerodynamics brand from Japan that rose to prominence in the 1990s. Known for aggressive yet functional styling, Bomex became a staple of the golden era of import tuning—bridging street racing culture with early motorsport-inspired design.

Over time, like many pioneers of that era, Bomex faced financial hardship and ultimately filed for bankruptcy, marking the end of the original company. However, its designs never disappeared—they evolved.

The Drift Era & Reinvention

As the 2000s drift scene exploded—especially within the BMW E36 community—the Bomex-style bumper found a second life.

Companies like Auto Handler (also known as Item-B) began reproducing and modifying the design. These versions introduced subtle aerodynamic changes and helped bring the look to a wider global audience.

But with that popularity came dilution. Over time, many reproductions strayed from the original proportions and intent, leaving enthusiasts with versions that captured the idea—but not the authenticity—of the original Bomex vision.
